Innovation that moves things forward
The new KÖGEL COOL LITESHELL is a world premiere! A unique selection of materials and a globally unique production process reduce its unladen weight by a noticeable 700 kg. Immediate effects are less fuel consumption, more range, more possible payload and lower CO2 emissions. The innovative outer shell creates maximum impact resistance and stability, which greatly reduces susceptibility to repair and, if necessary, ensures easy repairability. Noticeable effects are more availability, more uptime or in short: maximum cost-effectiveness.
This innovation is directly noticeable thanks to the new LITESHELL panel technology, which dispenses with a conventional steel top layer. The core consists of milled PU rigid foam blocks, the top layer of glass fiber mats with an outer shell of thermoplastic polyurethane (TPU).
Another efficiency plus are the cross members made of glass fiber reinforced plastic sheets (GRP sheets) in the vehicle floor, which insulate better than conventional wooden cross members. The high stability of the GRP reduces the material thickness and increases the foam volume by around 20 %.
HIGHER IMPACT STRENGTH AND STABILITY,
LESS SUSCEPTIBLE TO REPAIRS
The newly developed outer panel skin of the KÖGEL
COOL LITESHELL is both more impact-resistant and
more elastic and therefore more resistant than
previous constructions.
As this is a continuous surface,
is also the "attack surface" for damage
smaller, as branches, for example, do not get caught.
As a result, the surface is better protected against light
protected against knocks and minor damage.
Highly efficient and future-oriented e-components from our system partners Thermo King and BPW.
THE OLD AND NEW PANELS IN COMPARISON
Conventional Construction method
The newly developed LITESHELL panels are used for the side walls and roof of the vehicle. In contrast to conventional construction methods, they do not have a steel top layer, as this is generally energy-intensive to produce and not really effective. The new insulation layer consists of milled rigid polyurethane (PU) foam blocks, the top layer of glass fiber mats with an outer shell of thermoplastic polyurethane (TPU). It can be recycled in the construction sector as a functional material.

DID YOU ALREADY KNOW?
The name LITESHELL is based on bionics. Inspired by nature, or more specifically by the ingenuity of the eggshell, it brings outstanding lightness and comfort.
maximum stability. Material costs and
effect are in an optimal relationship and result in
energy-efficient mobility with the best possible protection
for transport and refrigerated goods.
In the continuous further development of the KÖGEL COOL LITESHELL, we focus on climate-efficient refrigerated transport together with two cooperating technology leaders in the transport industry - BPW and Thermo King.
The centerpiece of the collaboration is ePower, an innovative axle module from BPW that generates energy while the trailer is in motion to supply Thermo King's latest generation of refrigeration units with CO2-neutral and quiet electricity.
AxlePower system solution
ACCESS TO INDOOR STORES: Parking facilities
of the machine's motor allows deliveries in environmental and
Zero Emission Zones (ZEZ).
FUEL SAVING: Free energy generation and
-use saves thousands of liters and euros per machine and
Year.
REDUCED OPERATING COSTS: Recuperation of braking energy means brake pads wear more slowly. Greatly reduced engine utilization extends maintenance intervals.

MAXIMIZED FLEXIBILITY: Operation with any tractor unit
possible. Existing refrigerated trailer fleets are LEZ- and
ULEZ compatible.
HIGHEST POSSIBLE RESALE VALUE:
Significant extension of the operating life of existing
Refrigerated trailer fleets.
At the International Trailer Award 2025, our KÖGEL COOL LITESHELL took first place in the "Concept" category and our new underride guard took second place in the "Components" category. We are delighted that our innovative capabilities have also been recognized in this way and are very proud of the two awards.
