A strong team for the circular economy: W&P transports recycling products with e-trucks and Kögel dump trucks
On behalf of Blue Phoenix, a specialist in the disposal of materials from thermal waste treatment and the production of substitute building materials, W&P is transporting incinerator bottom ash and the resulting substitute building material HMVA-2 for recycling in the interests of a sustainable circular economy. The new Kögel tipper body is the perfect partner for W&P's e-trucks in this application, says Managing Director Alexander Wehr. The robust, one-piece steel body is ideal for transporting the highly abrasive ash, while the low tare weight ensures economical use. In addition to the excellent product quality, the company boss also appreciates the customer-focused, uncomplicated Kögel sales team.
Household waste that cannot be separated and recycled ends up in the residual waste garbage can and sooner or later ends up in a waste incineration plant for thermal recycling. However, this does not have to be the end of its useful life; the incinerator bottom ash (HMVA) produced from incinerated household waste can also be recycled. Through appropriate processing by specialized waste management companies, valuable materials can be recovered and large parts of the material flow can be returned to the material cycle as substitute building materials.
The globally active company Blue Phoenix, a specialist in the circular economy with its German headquarters in Krefeld, markets the material under the name HMVA-2. It is primarily used in technical structures, for example as a frost protection layer in road construction and earthworks, as a substitute construction material for noise barriers and as a substructure material for road embankments. In this way, HMVA also becomes part of the particularly sustainable circular economy, which aims to keep products and materials in the usage cycle for as long as possible.
HMVA should be transported in an environmentally friendly way
Blue Phoenix takes a holistic approach and attaches great importance to sustainable logistics. The transportation of HMVA should also be as environmentally friendly as possible. This is why W&P GmbH, based in Prichsenstadt near Würzburg in Lower Franconia, was awarded the contract for transportation. The recycling specialist is using three purely electrically powered Mercedes eActros 600s to transport the slag. 23 of the haulage company's 60 or so tractor units are already purely electric and therefore locally emission-free.
The three e-trucks will transport the material in a round trip from the Würzburg waste-to-energy plant via the Blue Phoenix processing plant in Würzburg to regional construction sites and the landfill in Wirmsthal (Lower Franconia), where some of the HMVA-2 substitute construction material will be installed as a supporting intermediate layer. „The use of zero-emission road trains was a key prerequisite for awarding the contract to W&P, as we want to reduce CO2-savings of this product,“ explains Mathias Fischer, who is jointly responsible for sales of substitute building materials in southern Germany at Blue Phoenix.
Robust, one-piece steel trough is ideal for abrasive ash
Kögel supplies the trailers for the strong team on behalf of sustainability: three three-axle Kögel tipper bodies of the new generation with steel troughs and a capacity of 24 cubic meters. „We have always bought Kögel - out of conviction!“ says Alexander Wehr, who runs W&P as Managing Director together with his brother Mathias Wehr. He has been relying on trailers from the Burtenbach-based vehicle manufacturer for more than 30 years. The reasons are obvious to him. „The price of the trailers is right, the resale value is very good and the support from Kögel Sales is uncomplicated and customer-focused,“ he praises.
According to the company boss, the product quality is also top. The sharp-edged slag from waste incineration requires a resistant steel skip. The one-piece, welded body of the new Kögel tipper body made of wear and corrosion-resistant sheet steel is ideal for transporting highly abrasive materials such as crushed stone, sand, gravel and household waste ash. The large tipping angle of 49 degrees ensures fast and efficient unloading without residue, while the smooth, straight inner surface minimizes dirt deposits. Alexander Wehr is also impressed by the stability thanks to the skip's low center of gravity and the torsion-resistant steel chassis. „This is particularly important when tipping on loose soils in landfills or construction sites,“ he explains.
Every kilo counts: Low tare weight ensures cost-effectiveness
The low tare weight of the Kögel tipper body is also of great importance to the company boss. Depending on the version and equipment, the new models weigh from 5,200 kilograms - a very good tare weight in the competitive environment. „We always drive fully loaded with 42 tons, as is permitted for electrically powered articulated lorries. Every kilogram that we load more is crucial for the economic efficiency of the transport,“ explains Alexander Wehr.
With the new generation of tipper bodies, Kögel is also fulfilling its customer promise ‚Economy meets Ecology - Because we care‘. The economically efficient tipper bodies are the perfect partners for the task of serving the sustainable circular economy and at the same time an economical transport solution.
