The trailer professionals: Kögel opens its first own service facility on the A8 freeway

Press release | 14.02.23

Kögel opens workshop at its headquarters in Burtenbach. As a result, customers can now take advantage of all essential services for semitrailers and trailers of all brands there. Thanks to the company's own first-hand know-how, the store's employees are able to carry out even the most complex work.

Whether standards such as legally required inspections or challenges such as accident repairs - at the new service location in Burtenbach, fleet operators can take advantage of all essential services and repairs on towed units - regardless of the brand of trailer or semitrailer. "Having our own service operation at the plant is simply part of the package when a vehicle manufacturer promises customer proximity," explains Anton Bigelmaier, head of the After Market business unit at Kögel. With the opening of its first own trailer workshop, the traditional vehicle manufacturer from Burtenbach in Bavaria is further fulfilling the company promise 'Because we care' in the interests of its customers.
For transporters, Kögel's own service operation holds great advantages. The know-how of a manufacturer of trailers and semi-trailers allows the employees of Kögel's own workshop to carry out even the most demanding repairs such as accident repairs. "Other service companies prefer to leave complex work such as straightening frames as well as tarpaulins, box bodies as well as tipper bodies to us," reports Kögel workshop manager Markus Wolf. In addition, the workshop has the capability to coat and paint or powder-coat these pieces at the factory using the KTL process, so that the corrosion protection of the repaired trailer is comparable to that of the new vehicle. Other services provided by the Kögel plant include wheel alignment and adjustment, work on the hydraulics of tipper vehicles, the retrofitting of equipment options such as tail lifts and facilities for load securing, including the preparation of load securing certificates.

Oversized spare parts and assemblies immediately available

The proximity to the plant offers fleet operators the additional advantage that spare parts are also stored which are less in demand or, for example, which, because of their dimensions and weights, mean a high logistics outlay for other service companies, such as outer frames, impact protection profiles and roof straps. Kögel also maintains service partnerships with all original equipment suppliers. These include the leading manufacturers of trailer axles as well as the suppliers of the trailer EBS.

Close-knit European Kögel service network continues to grow

Kögel's own workshop complements its extensive workshop network of 1,000 locations across Europe, of which around 500 are in Germany. The facility is located near the A8 freeway and thus on the important east-west link in the south of Germany. Therefore, the Kögel workshop will also be part of the breakdown service.
The operation is part of the company's extensive investment plans at the Burtenbach site. The workshop shares the building, which covers a total of 2,600 square meters, among other things with the SKD (semi-knocked-down) loading facility, which is also new and where component sets are prepared for transport to Kögel's European assembly plants.
