Federal Minister Wissing opened the "Nationwide Road Safety Week".

How can I cross a street safely? What is a blind spot? And how does a truck driver see road traffic? These were the questions addressed at the start of the "Blicki blickt's" road safety event with Federal Minister Dr. Volker Wissing and elementary school children in Berlin. In road safety workshops, pupils from various elementary schools in Berlin were made aware of the dangers in road traffic. The initiative is supported by Federal Minister of Transport Volker Wissing as patron of the Blicki e.V. non-profit initiative "Blicki blickt's", as well as the Blicki ambassadors Hildegard Müller, President VDA, Katrin "Tinka" Oschmann, Monika Humbaur, Managing Director Kögel Holding GmbH, Oliver Groß, CEO Nehlsen AG, and Marcell Wiese, Managing Director LOBBE GmbH. 

Dr. Volker Wissing, Federal Minister of Digital Affairs and Transport: "Children deserve our special attention: We want to further increase the road safety of children and young people and, in addition to a large number of our own measures such as the "Käpt'n Blaubär-Verkehrsfibel" (Captain Blue Bear Traffic Primer), we also promote projects and campaigns. The road safety initiative Blicki e.V. shows schoolchildren what a blind spot is and which situations they should avoid if possible or when they should be particularly attentive. The number of accidents involving children has fallen in recent years. We want to continue this positive trend and make children in particular more aware of dangers in road traffic."

The dangers of the blind spot can be conveyed particularly well using the Blicki truck, which is the core of the promotion project. The children enthusiastically climbed into the driver's seat of the truck and learned how quickly pedestrians and cyclists can disappear into the blind spot and are thus no longer visible to the truck driver. This is particularly dangerous when the truck is turning.

The Blicki truck toured Berlin, Potsdam and Dresden until June 17, 2023. A total of around 600 schoolchildren were able to take part in road safety workshops there. The final event was the Road Safety Day in Berlin on June 17, 2023. From 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., all children were able to participate in the public Blicki workshop at Steinplatz in Berlin-Charlottenburg.

About Blicki e.V. 

The non-profit Blicki e.V. was founded in fall 2017 and trains children in elementary schools and kindergartens throughout Germany. Together with Blicki the kangaroo, the children learn the basics of safe participation in road traffic in a fun and interactive way. The road safety initiative focuses on large vehicles and trucks. Since 2020, Blicki e.V. has received annual funding from the German Federal Ministry of Digital Affairs and Transport. So far, this has enabled over 60,000 children to be trained nationwide.

Brochure "Käpt'n Blaubärs fantastische Verkehrsfibel" (Captain Blue Bear's Fantastic Traffic Primer)

Just in time for the kick-off event of the "Road Safety Week", "Käpt'n Blaubär's fantastic traffic primer" has also been published. Federal Transport Minister Wissing presented the brochure, which is still hot off the press, to elementary school children on site.

For almost 20 years, the BMDV-sponsored Käpt'n Blaubär traffic primer has made an important contribution to traffic education in elementary schools and kindergartens. The brochure is published once a year in a print run of 4.5 million copies and thus reaches just as many children. 

With funny, adventurous stories, riddles, coloring pictures and comics, Captain Blue Bear explains to his three little bears and all other young road users how to be safe on the road. He likes to tell fibs in his stories, because it's easier to learn when you're having fun. But the traffic rules behind them are of course always important and true.

The Käpt'n Blaubär traffic primer has been published once a year since 2004 and is sent free of charge to all elementary schools and kindergartens throughout Germany. In order to convey the learning content in an age-specific manner, there are two editions, one for kindergartens and one for elementary schools.
