Modern and attractive working environment: Kögel celebrates topping-out ceremony for new administration building in Burtenbach

Press release | 02.08.22

On Wednesday, July 27, 2022, Kögel celebrated the topping-out ceremony for the new administration at the Burtenbach site. With the top modern office building, Kögel confirms its role as an attractive and important employer in the region. The outstanding position of the vehicle manufacturer was also acknowledged by the representatives of the Burtenbach municipality.

Best weather and a great atmosphere in Burtenbach, the headquarters of Kögel Trailer GmbH: Ideal conditions for a glittering topping-out ceremony! Yesterday, the management of the traditional vehicle manufacturer invited the entire workforce. The celebration was accompanied by hearty brass band music, a hearty snack from the grill and witty topping-out speeches.
In front of guests of honor from the worlds of politics and business, as well as company owner Ulrich Humbaur and the Kögel workforce, Kögel CEO Christian Renners explained: "We want to live up to our own high standards in the design of the new administration building." He continued, "Kögel offers innovative transport solutions that provide customers with economic and ecological benefits - in line with the company's mission statement 'Economy meets Ecology - Because we care'." According to Kögel CEO Renners, the 'Because we care' promise of care is also directed at the employees. They are to find an ideal, modern working environment in Burtenbach that motivates and enables outstanding work results.

Mayor pays tribute to Kögel as a major employer

"May a spirit of togetherness and constructive cooperation prevail in the new premises for the benefit of Kögel, its customers and employees," wished Hugo Ganser, 2nd Mayor of the Burtenbach municipality in his celebratory speech. He also congratulated Kögel for winning first place in the "Truck and Commercial Vehicle Manufacturer" category in the major Germany test conducted by the renowned trade magazine Focus Money. As part of a so-called social listening study among a total of 14,500 companies, Kögel prevailed over numerous well-known companies in the industry.

Employees move before the end of the year

The construction of the new administration building is approaching completion in leaps and bounds. Employees are expected to move into the new building, which covers a total area of around 1,800 square meters, before the end of December. There they will find spacious, light-flooded work, meeting and social areas spread over three floors. The new office building also meets sustainability requirements. This includes low-energy construction and a photovoltaic system on the building roof.
However, this is not the end of the modernization measures in Burtenbach. As soon as the workforce has moved from the previous administration building to the new building, the old building will be thoroughly refurbished at the beginning of next year. This will ensure that the rooms there also meet the high demands of a modern working environment. This will create additional office space at the Burtenbach site to accommodate Kögel's ambitious growth plans.

Investments in the double-digit millions include new plant

The administration building is just one part of Kögel's extensive investment plans at its headquarters in Burtenbach. The company is investing a total amount in the double-digit millions. Costs that owner Ulrich Humbaur unreservedly supports at this level and despite the generally difficult economic conditions currently prevailing in Europe.
The investments further include an approximately 2,600 square meter hall for SKD loading, where so-called semi-knocked-down vehicle kits are packed and loaded for export to foreign target markets. The building includes a commercial vehicle workshop open to the public, which will also be opened in the short term.

Kühlerwerk stands for innovation and secures jobs

Most of the funding, however, will go towards a new plant for insulated box bodies and the associated plant technology, which is in the final stages of planning. Kögel and the manufacturer of the production machinery have already signed the corresponding contracts. An innovative and so far technologically unique refrigerated trailer is to be produced there. "The production of the new refrigerated trailers opens up a new market and secures jobs for people in the region," said 2nd Mayor Hugo Ganser.
The high level of investment also strengthens Kögel's competitiveness and proves that Kögel is one of the most important employers in the Günzburg economic region and beyond. "In Burtenbach, the heart of southern German vehicle manufacturing beats so strongly that it can be heard throughout Europe," says company boss Christian Renners.

Burtenbach site also secure in the long term

The high level of investment in the future of the site complements the early extension of the collective wage agreement, including the safeguarding of the site, by a further five years until 2031, which was already agreed in the previous year. This offers all Kögel employees a high degree of security and all the existing advantages of being bound by the collective agreement with IG Metall.
